Description

Fluke 177 True RMS Multimeter

The Fluke 177 True RMS Multimeter stands out because of its large AC/DC voltage (0 to 1000V) and frequency (0 to 100kHz) ranges and its capacity to measure in both milliamps and millivolts. The instrument also takes readings for resistance (up to 50MΩ), AC/DC current (up to 10A) and capacitance (up to 10,000µF) in addition to carrying out continuity and diode tests (feedback via audible buzzer). The True RMS measurement for AC readings helps contribute to excellent basic accuracy of ±0.9% whilst smoothing mode helps produce coherent results from rapidly fluctuating input values.

Automatic ranging selects the best range and resolution for a given parameter, thus saving time, although the user can manually select the range when required. Readings are shown on the backlit digital screen and there are options for min/max/avg data recording (with min/max alert) and a real-time bar-graph display of readings. Results can be manually held on screen via the data hold button but Auto HOLD is also available which keeps a stable reading on screen until a new stable reading is detected. The speedy response times mean that results come through extremely fast.

Several features make the Fluke 177 a safe instrument to use. Dangerous voltage levels are indicated by an on-screen lightning symbol and the ‘LEAd’ message on screen reminds the user to check the test lead connections when the operating dial is switched to a different parameter. These features are backed up by an over voltage safety rating of Cat IV up to 600V and Cat III up to 1000V.

The Fluke 177 is lightweight and ergonomic and operates via a simple dial and push button interface. Grooves in the back of the instrument allow easy lead storage and the product comes supplied with a 9V battery and test leads.
